Tender Loving Care Advice for Crinum superbum (Giant Crinum Lily) in ceramic pot:
A large bulb bearing herbaceous plant which produces cluster of spidery-looking white flowers which are fragrant at night. The plant can grow to 1 meter in height and forms larger colonies of off-shoots when the plant grows older.
It has became a Lunar New Year Festive plant since year 2010 primarily due to its outlook which resembles the edible “Leek” an important vegetable with auspicious meaning of counting money in Chinese. However Crinum Superbum is non-edible.
Unlike the local Crinum Asiaticum, this imported Crinum Superbum has short, compact and tidy rosette of foliages. The plant is adaptable to indoor and outdoor conditions.
Growing Conditions
Light: It is tolerance to low light and can thrive well under full sun conditions.
Water: Regular watering is preferred.
Soil: Prefer loamy and well drained soils.
Fertilizer: Feed the plant every month with small amount of controlled-release fertilizer.
Pests and Diseases: Usually diseases and pests free with exception of snails, slugs and caterpillars when the plant is grown outdoor.
