Begonia sizemoreae originates from Vietnam and has very unusual leaves. The leaves which are covered densely with bristle-like hairs (as long as 1-1.5cm!) are dark green, mottled with a light green spiral of colours throughout. Each leaf is about 10-15cm across, but could potentially grow up to 30cm wide as the plant matures.
Grow in partial sun and dry out between watering. This Begonia could handle a wide range of temperatures, from hot to cool but looks at its best when grown in temperatures between 21-26°C. It should receive more than 40% humidity in order to thrive. Ideally, place the plant under bright shade and protect it from strong, direct sun that would result in leaf burns.
Light: Place the plant in a well-ventilated, sheltered area where it receives dappled sunlight.
Water: Once a day, water the plants thoroughly till excess water drains out of the pot.
Temperature: Plant tolerates temperatures from 18-29°C.
Fertilizer: To boost plant's overall health, feed it with a diluted concentration of water-soluble, balanced fertilizer that contains equal amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (e.g. N-P-K: 15-15-15) once every two weeks. Otherwise, a slow-release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote) can be incorporated into the potting media, and to be replenished after about 2-3 months. Do follow the recommended dosage indicated on the fertilizer’s application instructions.
