Tillandsia are perennial herbaceous plants which exhibit a multitude of physiological and morphological differences making this a diverse genus. The leaves are usually close together in rosettes which helps to collect nutrients and water. An air plant's foliage may change color when it blooms to attract pollinators.
Growing Conditions
Light: Best to keep air plant in bright but indirect sunlight.
Water: Mist the plant once a week. If the plant is dehydrated, soak it for 10 minutes, shake off any excess water and leave it at well-ventilated spot. Prolonged soaking or regular misting may encourage root rot.
Soil: No soil/damp substrate.
Fertilizer: Light dose of fertilizer formulated for air plant helps to promote healthy growth.
Others: Regular cleaning of leaves helps to maintain healthy leaf growth. Air plants are pest-resistant but occasionally susceptible to mealybugs or scale insects. If this happens, isolate the plant from other air plants and remove the insects by hand using a damp cotton swab.
