This hybrid is the result of a primary cross between Papilionanthe teres x Vanda vietnamica, and was registered in 2008. However, the plants on sale here are grown from seeds produced from a repeat of the primary cross. The hybrid shares the same parent, Papilionanthe teres, with Singapore’s National flower, Papilionanthe (syn. Vanda) Miss Joaquim. The flower measures about 3 cm in diameter and inflorescences range from one to three blooms on the apex of a single flowering stalk. The petals and sepals are slightly narrow and light pink in colour, while the lip features distinctive maroon red bands on a cream white to pink base colour, with a slight yellow hue on the lateral lobes. This gives the flowers an overall clean and gentle appearance. This hybrid is a medium sized compact plant with semi-terete leaves, which enhances the overall neatness in the plant’s appearance.
Care & Maintenance
Light: Place the plant in a well-ventilated area where the plants can receive bright, and strong sunlight daily.
Water: Water the entire plant and roots in the growth substrate thoroughly. It is recommended to water the plant twice daily, once in the morning and in the late afternoon.
Temperature: Plants can tolerate temperatures between 26-32°C.
Fertilizer: An orchid or all-purpose balanced fertilizer that contains equal amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (e.g. N-P-K: 21-21-21 +TE) will help to boost plant health. Foliar spray on plants is to be carried out once a week, with the recommended dosage indicated on the fertilizer’s application instructions.
