Begonia sykakiengii is native to the Philippines. Its foliage is dusky green to pink, with irregular markings in silver grey. This Begonia is quite free-flowering with bursts of pink flowers, but it is primarily grown for their unique foliage. The silver grey colour in this species becomes more prominent and intense when the plant is placed under bright but diffused sunlight. Plants show signs of elongation when they do not receive enough light and colouration will appear faded or bleached when the light is too strong.

Light: Place the plant in a well-ventilated area whereby it can receive around 4-6 hours of bright but indirect sunlight daily. Like most Begonia, it will tolerate full shade i.e. no direct or filtered sun, but wouldn't produce dense foliage.

Water: Once or twice a day, water the plants thoroughly till excess water drains out of the pot.

Temperature: Plant tolerates temperatures between 18-28°C.

Fertilizer: To boost plant's overall health, feed it with a diluted concentration of water-soluble, balanced fertilizer that contains equal amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (e.g. N-P-K: 15-15-15) once every two weeks. Otherwise, a slow-release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote) can be incorporated into the potting media, and to be replenished after about 2-3 months. Do follow the recommended dosage indicated on the fertilizer’s application instructions.
