A native to Brazil, Philodendron mayoi is from the Araceae family (Aroids) and can be found in many parts of the Amazon rainforests. It is commonly grown for its dark green frond-like lobed foliage. Being easy to care for, this species is definitely a good addition to your indoor and outdoor plant collection.

Like most Aroids, it prefers bright areas with indirect sunlight. The top few inches of the potting substrates have to dry out in between waterings. It is recommended to provide high humidity and can do so, either by misting the leaves regularly or placing them on top of a shallow dish with pebbles and water.

Light: Place the plant in a well-ventilated area whereby it can receive around 4-6 hours of bright but indirect sunlight daily.

Water: Once a day, water the plants thoroughly till excess water drains out of the pot. Allow potting media to dry slightly between waterings.

Temperature: Plant tolerates temperatures from 23-30°C.

Fertilizer: An all-purpose, water-soluble balanced fertilizer that contains an equal amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (e.g. N-P-K: 15-15-15 +TE) will help to boost the plant's overall health by feeding it every two weeks. Otherwise, a slow-release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote) can be incorporated into the potting media, and to be replenished after about 2-3 months. Do follow the recommended dosage indicated on the fertilizer’s application instructions.
