Alocasia sanderiana, also known as Kris plant is an easy growing and popular ornamental pot plant. It is cultivated for its elaborated Tropical Foliage which resemblances to the wavy blade of the Kris dagger, a double-edged Filipino sword.
The leaves are evergreen, pelted, and a glossy deep-green with large, silvery-white veins. The fruits and orange-red berries are not edible. Being a member from the toxic Aroid family, it is advisable to keep the plant away from pets and kids.
Growing Conditions
Light: It prefers bright filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight that can scorch its foliage.
Water: Allow the plants to dry between watering, but not completely. They are more susceptible to crown, stem and root rot. Avoid over watering and the use of high moisture substrates.
Soil: It prefers moist, well drained potting soil.
Fertilizer: Feed the plants every two to four months with controlled-release fertilizer, Nitrocote or organic -pellets.
Others: No known serious pests or diseases though prone to red spider mites. Regular check is required on foliage to avoid infestation of spider mites.
