The genus Monolena is distributed from Guatemala to Peru and Brazil. It is an unusually attractive and appeal to growers who like foliage plants, caudex-producing plants, and ant plants. It produces pale lilac flowers which are fairly small. You might also spot minute "pearl bodies" on the underside of their leaves, and these are usually eaten by a number of ant species.
Light: Place the plant in a well-ventilated, sheltered area where it receives dapple sunlight.
Water: Once a day, water the plants thoroughly till excess water drains out of the pot. It thrives better under high humidity, hence misting on the plants for every few hours is recommended.
Temperature: Plant tolerates temperatures between 16-26°C.
Fertilizer: An all-purpose, water-soluble balanced fertilizer that contains equal amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (e.g. N-P-K: 15-15-15 +TE) will help to boost plant's overall health by feeding it every two weeks. Otherwise, a slow-release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote) can be incorporated into the potting media, and to be replenished after about 2-3 months. Do follow the recommended dosage indicated on the fertilizer’s application instructions.
