Episcia is a member of the Gesneriad family. Cultivar Lil Lemon has fuzzy, light green foliage and the veins on the center are bright silver-green in colour. It has a stoloniferous growth habit, producing many new plantlets. The trumpet-shaped flowers are small (about 2-3cm), bright pink with a hint of yellow in the throat. It loves fluorescent lights and hence, makes an exceptional indoor plant. Otherwise, they are also ideal as hanging plants. Episcia have to be watered regularly and do not like to dry out completely. Check to ensure that the potting substrate is kept moist but not wet. They require high humidity to thrive. Remove the unwanted stolons (and propagate!) so that the main plant gets to quickly mature. Best that the plant is grown under bright, indirect light for at least 8 hours a day.
Light: Place the plant in a well-ventilated area whereby it can receive around 4-6 hours of bright but indirect sunlight daily.
Water: Once a day, water the plants thoroughly till excess water drains out of the pot. Allow potting media to dry slightly between watering.
Temperature: Plant tolerates temperature between 20-32°C.
Fertilizer: To boost plant's overall health, feed it with a diluted concentration of water-soluble, balanced fertilizer that contains equal amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (e.g. N-P-K: 15-15-15) once every two weeks. Otherwise, a slow-release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote) can be incorporated into the potting media, and to be replenished after about 2-3 months. Do follow the recommended dosage indicated on the fertilizer’s application instructions.
